The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad is set for a major transformation with construction of a New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) starting by March 2026.
Adani Ahmedabad International Airport (AAIAL) has proposed relocating the existing Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, state hangar, and general aviation terminal to create space for a single expansive facility capable of handling rising passenger volumes over the next decade. The project will be executed in two phases, beginning with the terminal construction, followed by relocation of ATC infrastructure.
Positioned as a potential enabler for the 2036 Olympic Games, if Ahmedabad is selected as a host city, the NITB aims to be completed before the event to handle increased international traffic. The new terminal will replace the Gujsail terminal, doubling capacity to two crore passengers annually from 1.2 crore in FY 2025. It will consolidate domestic and international operations, providing seamless transit and upgraded world-class facilities for travellers.
The Adani Group plans to invest nearly Rs 96,000 crore in its airports business over five years, focusing on infrastructure and real estate development.
