India marked a major milestone in strategic manufacturing with the inauguration of the world’s largest aerospace-grade titanium remelting facility in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
On 11 May, 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the plant, operated by Aerolloy Technologies, a subsidiary of PTC Industries. The facility is part of India’s first Strategic Materials Technology Complex within the Lucknow node of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. Spread across 50 acres, the titanium and superalloy plant has an annual production capacity of 6,000 tonne, positioning it as the world’s largest single-site titanium remelting unit.
The plant uses advanced technologies such as vacuum arc remelting (VAR), electron beam (EB), plasma arc melting (PAM), and vacuum induction melting (VIM), enabling the domestic production of high-grade materials critical for aerospace and defence sectors.
In addition to the titanium plant, foundation stones were laid for seven other advanced manufacturing facilities. These include an aerospace precision castings plant capable of producing single crystal castings for jet engines, an aerospace forge shop and mill products plant to replace imports of billets, bars, and plates, and an aerospace precision machining shop for the export of ultra-precision CNC machined components.
