The long-awaited cable-stayed flyover connecting Madh Island with Versova in Mumbai has cleared a major hurdle, as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has secured approval from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

The 2.06 km flyover, which will pass over the Madh Creek, aims to cut travel time between the two areas from 45–60 minutes during peak hours to just five minutes. Currently, Madh Island and Versova are connected only by a jetty.  The new flyover is expected to ease traffic and provide uninterrupted year-round access. The tenders were floated in March last year and work orders were issued in September. The project's final cost has been revised to Rs 2,395 crore—33 percent higher than the initial estimate of Rs 1,800 crore, due to rising labour, material, and GST costs.

“The flyover will pass above the Marve creek, which falls under the coastal regulation zone (CRZ) area,” a BMC official said. Authorities expect to start construction by year-end and complete the project within three years.
