National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is awaiting coastal regulation zone (CRZ) clearance for the 20.6 km double-decker elevated highway between Chennai Port and Maduravoyal in Tamil Nadu, which will cost Rs 5,855 crore.

The project will have the capacity to handle 40,000 passenger car units a day. The double-decker will only cover 14 km from Maduravoyal to Napier Bridge.

In September 2020, NHAI received CRZ clearance for the single-deck project, but later, it was proposed a double-decker project, the expert appraisal committee (EAC) of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest has recommended fresh CRZ clearance for the project.
