Fresh ProjexMay 20258www.projectstoday.comSolar/Wind Power Dominated Fresh Investment in April 2025In April 2025, 1,504 new investment projects worth Rs 4,93,407.77 crore were announced. Although this represented a 3.34 percent decline in total investment value from March 2025, it came alongside a significant rise in the number of projects, from 1,172 in March, indicating broader participation but with a reduction in the average size of each investment proposal. Solar and Wind power projects accounted for a dominant 47.5 percent of the total fresh investments announced in April 2025, continuing their strong momentum observed over the past year. While the transition from conventional to non-conventional energy sources is essential for achieving the country%u2019s carbon emission targets, the key concern remains the timely execution of these ambitious projects.BY OWNERSHIPThe most striking feature of April%u2019s investment pattern was the overwhelming dominance of the Private sector. Private promoters announced 561 projects with a combined value of Rs 4,21,365.49 crore, accounting for 85.4 percent of the total fresh investments. Indian private firms were the primary drivers, though foreign players also contributed significantly, in the Renewable energy sector. Government investment, by contrast, stood at just Rs 72,042.28 crore and accounted for 14.6 percent of the total fresh investment. This temporary lull in public investment may reverse in the coming months as public enterprises firm up their capex plans for FY2025-26.BY SECTORSThe Electricity and Renewable Energy sector remained dominant, attracting the highest investment among all sectors. A total of 196 new projects worth Rs 2,46,910.60 crore were announced, constituting over 50 percent of total investment in April. Non-conventional energy continued to lead this space, with 188 projects totalling Rs 2,34,256 crore. Solar Power alone saw Rs 1,87,394.14 crore in commitments across 151 projects, while Wind Power attracted Rs 46,781.85 crore from 36 projects. Additionally, proposals for setting up six pumped Hydel power projects worth Rs 12,427 crore were submitted.The Manufacturing sector, which remained a stronghold of private investment, saw the announcement of 165 new projects worth Rs 1,37,912.70 crore.
