On 5 March 2014, G K Vasan, Union Minister of Shipping, laid the foundation stone for a container terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru port in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.
In June 2013, JNPT inked a concession agreement with Nhava Sheva Gateway Terminal, a subsidiary of Dubai-based DP World, for the development container terminal at JN port.
As per the agreement, the terminal will be developed by the concessionaire at an estimated cost of Rs 600 crore, on DBFOT basis, with a 17 year concession period. The new 330 mtr berth with 27 ha of yard will add 8,00,000 twenty foot equivalent container units of container capacity.
