Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) has received the nod from the Expert Appraisal Committee on environmental appraisal of nuclear power projects, for its nuclear power plant in Fatehabad district of Haryana.
The company has received approval to set up a 2,800 MW nuclear-based power project, which entails an investment of Rs 23,502 crore. The power project will be developed in four phases at Gorakhpur village in Fatehabad.
In addition to the approval, the committee has also suggested several additional environmental safeguards. It has also asked the company to obtain the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board's (AERB) clearance for the site before starting any construction work.
Further, the committee has suggested that NPCIL should take precautionary measures in and around the plant, including regular monitoring of all kinds of pollutants, radioactive pollutants in the air, and discharged water, as per AERB standards.
