The World Bank has come forward to provide
rs.1,600 crore aid for developing 21 towns in north Karnataka districts.
A financial assistance of Rs.175 crore would be
given to Bijapur, a historic city in Karnataka, under the integrated town
development project. The Union and state governments would contribute 30 per
cent of the project cost.
Laying new roads, widening existing roads,
implementing drinking water projects and drainage facility and shifting of slums
were some of the works taken up under the project.
