It was learnt that fourteen companies have expressed interest in participating in the development of the proposed deepwater international container terminal at Vizhinjam.

The companies attended the pre-bid meeting organised by the Ports Department earlier in April 2005 and also received the tender documents, according to an official statement.  The Government has issued a notification extending the last date for submitting of tenders to 8 June 2005, following requests from prospective bidders.

The 14 companies interested in the project are:

3. Gammon Infrastructure Project, Mumbai
4. Maersk India Pvt Ltd, Mumbai
5. AR Traders, Kozhikode
6. SICAL Logistics, Chennai
7. Ital Thai Development Public Company Ltd, Bangkok
8. Essar Shipping, Mumbai
9. CMA-CGM Global (India) Pvt Ltd, Chennai
10. Macknight Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, Mumbai
11. Larsen & Toubro (ECC division), Chennai
12. Ssangyong Construction Co, New Delhi
13. Hili Company, Malta
14. Zoom Developers, Mumbai
