The OP Jindal Group has decided to split its
proposed mega steel plant in West Bengal into three plants spread over West
Bengal and Jharkhand. The group had outlined a 5 million tpa integrated steel
plant in West Bengal with iron ore requirements to be met from Jharkhand.
Prompting the latest move is Jharkhand's refusal to part with iron ore without
substantial local investment.
According to the revised plan, Jindals will set
up a Rs.2,000 crore plant in Jharkhand and two plants costing Rs.5,000 crore
each in West Bengal. Finer details are not yet available.
