Indian Oil Corporation will be taking a final
view on the revised Paradip refinery project during its board meeting in
September 2005.
Engineers India Ltd
is currently preparing the detailed feasibility report, which will be taken up
at IOC's board meeting. Following this, it would take another year to prepare
the detailed engineering, do the risk analysis and finalize the project
contractors. Physical work on the project is likely to begin by end-2006.
Commissioning is targeted for 2009-10.
In its revised
incarnation, the project envisages refining capacity of 15 million tpa as
against the earlier 9 million tpa. Besides, a petrochemical complex is being
planned within the refinery complex, on the lines of IOC's Panipat refinery
project. The Paradip project also envisages the construction of a crude oil
terminal and a single buoy mooring facility.
Around 3 million
tonnes of petroleum products would be annually supplied to the northern region
through a pipeline to be constructed from Paradip to Allahabad (UP) via Rourkela
(Orissa).
Another pipeline has
been planned to transport crude from Paradip to IOC's refineries in Haldia (West
Bengal) and Barauni (Jharkhand).
