Ircon International Ltd, the construction arm of
the Indian Railways, has bagged a Rs.64 crore highway project in Nepal. The
Government project includes construction of pavement and strengthening of the
east-west highway from Belbari to Chauharwa.
The Asian Development Bank-funded project
involves upgrading 130 km of roads and new construction of around 10 km. The
work has to be completed in 24 months.
Ircon's ongoing overseas projects
Ethiopia: Ircon is executing a project of
upgradation of Dera-Mechara road for the Ethiopian Roads Authority. The work,
valued at about Rs.141 crore, will be completed by February 2008. The project is
funded by the International Development Association (IDA) and involves road
upgradation for 56 km and construction of new alignment for 64 km.
Bangladesh: IRCON has won a Rs.32 crore
contract on modernisation of signalling and inter-locking system of 12 stations
of the Sylhet-Akhaura section of the Bangladesh Railways.
The work involves design, supply, installation
and commissioning of microprocessor base signalling system to be completed in 18
months or by September 2006. The Dhaka-Sylhet road project would be completed
shortly.
Another work to be completed by June 2005 is the
widening and strengthening of the 45-km road at Sylhet including construction of
bridges for the Bangladeshi Ministry of Communication, and the Roads &
Highways Department. This project is being executed as a joint venture with
Islam Trading, a Bangladeshi company and the value of Ircon's portion of work is
Rs.67 crore.
