A pre-tendering meeting held for the
Sethusamudram Ship Canal project has elicited response from international
dredging majors like Dredging International (Netherlands), Boskalis
International, Ballast Ham Dredging and Jan De Nul of Belgium. Indian companies
like Dredging Corporation of India and Jaisu Shipping have also evinced interest
in the project.
The Rs.2,427 crore project involves dredging of
82 million m3 . L&T Ramboll Consulting Engineers has been
appointed as consultants to the project.
The dredging involves four legs, of which one
would be entrusted to Dredging Corporation of India on nomination basis. The
contract for the remaining three legs would be awarded through an international
competitive bidding process.
