Lafarge India is planning to expand its
production of portland slag cement (PSC) by 0.4 mln tpa which will take its
installed capacity of PSC and flyash based portland pozzolona cement (PPC) to
3.4 mln tpa.
With the capacity expansion Lafarge India's total
cement making capacity in the country would stand at 5.4 mln tpa in Jharkhand
and Chhattisgarh, with 3.1 mln tpa being PPC, 1.9 mln tpa being PSC and another
0.4 mln tpa being ordinary portland cement (OPC).
Currently , 0.9 mln tpa of slag generated by Tata
Steel goes into its production here of around 1.6 mln tpa PSC and overall slag
availability with the major steel has gone up to an annual 1.2 mln tpa. This additionally
available slag would thus be utilised in Lafarge's 0.4 mln tpa PSC expansion.
The company has also agreed to set up a one mln
tns tpa cement plant at Palamau district of Jharkhand and has agreed to increase
the capacity of its cement plant located at Jamshedpur to 7.5 mln tns tpa from
mln tpa.
