Seven steel project segments, being implemented
by Steel Authority of India and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam, are likely to be
completed by January 2007.
Out of these, six project segments belong to
Steel Authority of India and form part of its overall modernisation and
expansion drive that aims to attain steel making capacity of 20 million tpa by
2012, from the present 13 million tpa.

The seventh project segment pertains to the Phase
I of the coke oven battery No.4 project of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam. Approved in
December 2003, at a estimated cost of Rs.303 crore, the project is expected to
be commissioned as scheduled in December 2006. While an expenditure of nearly
Rs.85 crore has already been incurred on the project, its original cost stands
revised downwards to Rs.286.83 crore.
