The Union steel ministry is likely to clear the
mega expansion plan of Rasthriya Ispat Nigam (better known as Visakhapatnam
Steel Plant) by end-October 2005.
MN Dastur & Co, the project consultants, have
estimated the project outlay at Rs.8,250 crore that would be financed through
internal accruals to the extent of around Rs.5,500 crore.
The Union government has already completed the
initial assessment of the project in April 2005. A Cabinet note prepared by the
finance ministry is being circulated to other ministries concerned.
