The Union Petroleum Secretary, Mr M S
Srinivasan, on 10 March 2006 confirmed that RasGas of Qatar would be supplying
LNG to the reviving Dabhol power project.
LNG supplies, expected only by
end-December 2006, would take place for two and a half years giving the new
promoters of the 2,184 MW power project -- Ratnagiri Gas & Power Pvt Ltd --
sufficient time to tie up other sources. LNG imported from Qatar would be
regassified at Petronet LNG's Dahej terminal in Gujarat, it is learnt.
If Phase I (740 MW) of the Dabhol
power project resumes commercial production by May 2006, as earlier indicated by
the Union power ministry, generation would be done using the naphtha lying
stored in the power plant premises.
