Tata Steel has planned to set up a
greenfield steel plant in Iran, which could go into production by 2009. The
initial capacity of the plant would be 2 million tpa.
Most of the agreements have been
finalized, it is learnt. The Iranian government has assured supply of iron ore
pellets and gas. The long-term gas supply agreement is likely to be signed in
the next two-three months.
Meanwhile, Tata Steel has made
progress with its 1.2 lakh tpa ferro chrome project coming up in South Africa.
The domestic steel major is also pursuing its $2 billion investment programme in
Bangladesh.
Tata Steel is in the midst of a $1
billion expansion aiming at worldwide steel capacity of 30 million tpa by 2015.
The expansion plan includes overseas acquisitions and greenfield projects.
