The Maharashtra Cabinet, on 3 May 2006,
approved Maharashtra State Electricity Generation Co's (MahaGenco) proposal to
set up four power plants aimed at a total capacity addition of 2,000 MW.
These projects will entail an
investment of around Rs.8,609 crore and 80 per cent of this will be raised
through loans from Power Finance Corporation. and Rural Electrification
Corporation.

Work on these plants will commence
July 2006 with completion scheduled between November 2008 and February
2010. The state government has also given approval to MahaGenco to tie up with the
coal ministry for captive mining for these projects.
