National Highways Authority of India
on 16 May 2006 signed a cash contract with Nagarjuna Construction Co for
four-laning of a 38-km stretch (km 94 to km 132) on the Jhansi-Lakhnadon section
lying on NH-26. The section is part of the North-South Corridor project,
representing NHDP-Phase II. The project is financed by Asian Development Bank.
The contract valued at Rs.140.39 crore
will be completed by 15 November 2008 (thirty months from the date of signing
the agreement).
The four-lane divided carriageway will
have a width of 7.5m with paved shoulders on both sides. The stretch will have
one bypass, at Birdha, and a service road of 5.3 km. The highway stretch will be
supported by six minor bridges, four underpasses and two bus bays.
ADB funding: India has received
$400 million (Rs.1,800 crore) as loan for the NHDP-II project (North-South,
East-West corridor). The loan is being used for executing 13 civil contract
packages, of which the above-mentioned project is part, for upgrading highways
of NH-26 and NH-7 in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
