Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan
Nigam (UPRVUNL) is confident of starting work on its 2x250 MW Parichha thermal
power project (Stage III) by July 2006. The power station is located in Jhansi
district.
Speaking to ProjectsToday, UPRVUNL
officials indicated that a verbal order has been placed on Bharat Heavy
Electricals in April 2006 for executing the main power plant package on EPC
basis. This includes controls & instrumentation and civil works of the power
block. BHEL expects to start work on the Rs.1,900 crore contract in July 2006.
The project involves setting up of two
coal-based units of 250 MW each (Units 5 and 6) at the existing Parichha power
station. Unit 5 will be commissioned by January 2009, followed by Unit 6 six
months thereafter. UPRVUNL has even floated tenders for the balance of plant
work for Stage III. Bidding closes on 3 June 2006.
It may be mentioned that work on
Parichha power project (Stage II) is on the verge of completion. Stage II
involves setting up of two coal-based units of 210 MW each (Units 3 and 4).
While Unit 3 was commissioned in April 2006, Unit 4 is scheduled for
commissioning by September 2006.
The total capacity of the Parichha
power station will stand enhanced to 1,140 MW through six units [2x110, 2x210,
2x250 MW] after completion of Stage III.
BHEL has been associated with all the
three stages as EPC contractor of the main plant package. For Stage II, Tata
Projects was the balance of plant contractor.
