Bharat Heavy Electricals, on 12 June
2006, bagged an order worth Rs.113 crore from Essar Steel for setting up a 110.6 MW gas turbine
generator. This order would be part of Essar Steel's 350 MW combined cycle power
plant that would support the Hazira steel complex expansion project in Surat
district of Gujarat.
The scope of work includes design,
engineering, manufacture, supply, transportation, supervision of installation,
erection, testing and commissioning of a 110.6 MW gas turbine generator with
C&I and associated
auxiliaries.
Work on the project is scheduled for
completion within 14 months, which is around August 2007.
For Essar, BHEL is already executing
an order for a captive power plant of similar rating at Hazira. The project is
in an advanced stage and is expected to be commissioned shortly.
ProjectsToday adds: Essar Steel
is in the process of setting up a combined cycle power plant roughly of 350 MW
capacity (300 MW gas-based + 55 MW steam-based). In March 2005, one gas unit of
100 MW was commissioned along with a 55 MW steam unit. BHEL, besides the
new order in question, is already implementing a 106 MW gas-based power plant
that would be commissioned shortly. Once the new contract is commissioned by
August 2007, the captive power plant capacity would be around 366 MW, including
55 MW of steam turbine generation.
