NTPC, the first half of September 2006, placed orders worth Rs.212 crore for three civil work packages on Subhash Projects & Marketing. The orders relate to the Barh and Korba super thermal power projects in Chhattisgarh and Bihar, respectively. Giving details on the orders, a senior official of SPML said that all the letters of intent were received but the formal contract agreements were pending. Work on the all orders is expected to start in October 2006 with the completion period being 27 months for all the three packages.

The largest of the three orders was the Rs.121 crore  package for executing all offsite civil works relating to the 3x660 MW Barh super thermal power project in Patna district of Bihar.  The first unit of the Barh super thermal power project is scheduled to commission in March 2009, followed by the remaining two in January 2010 and March 2010. The second order, valued at Rs.25 crore, was for constructing an ash water pond, also for the Barh STPP.

The third package, worth Rs.68 crore, was for major civil works at NTPC's Korba STPP expansion project in Chhattisgarh. The expansion entails setting up of one 500 MW coal-based power unit, the seventh at the Korba power complex, taking the total capacity to 2,600 MW. Currently, the Korba complex has six units -- three each of 200 MW and 500 MW capacity. The last unit of the Korba power complex was commissioned in March 1989.
