The Union government is planning to
develop two major shipyards - each in eastern and western region of the country
on a public-private partnership basis.
Apart from building new shipyards, the
Centre
will also renovate the existing Hindustan Shipyard at Visakhapatnam and has
selected 187 minor ports that will be developed as major ports to increase the
maritime trade.
It is also assured that in the coming
years around 70 new container terminal projects will come up adding to the
existing 27.
