The Maharashtra government, on 8
November 2006, cleared the second trance of land for Reliance Industries'
special economic zone in Navi Mumbai. The state government allotted 1,150 ha of
land that was in addition to 450 ha allotted earlier in 2006. With this,
Reliance has tied up more than 50 per cent of the total land requirement of
2,140 ha. Out of the total area, 85 per cent will be used for industrial
purposes while 15 per cent will be earmarked for residential units. Work on SEZ
is scheduled to complete within six years.
Reliance Industries is also developing
the MahaMumbai SEZ that will be spread over 10,000 ha and would entail
investment of Rs.30,000 crore.
