On 14 January 2007, Honda Motors
operating in India through a joint venture Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) signed a
letter of intent with Rajasthan government for setting up its second
manufacturing plant in Rajasthan. It will entail an investment of around Rs.900
crore.
The facility to be spread over 500-700
acres of land will have an initial capacity of 50,000 units per year.
However it is estimated that the total
investment of Honda Motors, including investment by the company vendors in the
ancillary units will be around Rs.2,000 crore. Apart from the manufacturing
unit, the new plant will also have a suppliers' park, which will house Honda's
network of ancillary units.
