On 22 January 2007, Tata Steel has
placed orders worth Rs.1,000 crore for main equipments for the 6 million tpa
steel project at Kalinga Nagar in Orissa.
The equipment, for which the orders
were placed included a blast furnace of 4,300 cubic metre along with its
associated facilities and auxiliaries, which will produce 3.2 million tpa of
iron. This includes:
- Siemens VAI, UK bagged the contract
for design and supply of blast furnace.
- Equipment for complete steel making
facilities, including two LD converters, two-strand continuous slab caster
to cast 2,000 mm wide slabs with secondary refining, has been finalised.
Work for the design and supplies was awarded to SMS Demag.
- The desulphurisation of hot metal
as well as refining of steel will be designed and supplied by SMS Mevac,
U.K.
