On 10 April 2007, around 10 bidders
have submitted their request for qualification (RfQs) for the 4,000 MW Tilaiya
Ultra Mega Power project in Jharkhand.
The bidders include Tata Power Co,
Jindal Steel & Power, Sterlite, Essar, Vishal Exports, Reliance Energy, Torrent,
NTPC, AES and Bian Vijaya SDN Berhard (Malaysia). The letter of intent is
expected to be issued to the successful bidder by 16 July 2007 and is likely to
sign an agreement by 17 September 2007.
Power Finance Corp (PFC), which is a
nodal agency for the implementation of UMPPs, had postponed the submission of a
RFQ for the Tilaiya project to 10 April 2007 from the originally fixed date of
20 March 2007 as it was in the midst of the settlement of the Sasan controversy.
The power from the proposed project
will will be procured on a competitive bidding route by Delhi, Uttar Pradesh,
Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar and
Jharkhand.
