Bharat Heavy Electricals bagged an EPC
contract worth Rs.2,475 crore from Tamil Nadu Electricity Board for setting up a
1x 600 MW (Unit 1) at North Chennai Thermal Power Station in Tamil Nadu.
Significantly, this is the first ever
order secured by BHEL for the new rating unit of 600 MW designed to sub critical
parameters. The boiler and its auxiliaries will be manufactured by BHEL at its
Tiruchirapalli and Ranipet works in Tamil Nadu, while the steam turbine and
generator will be manufactured at the company's Haridwar plant. The state of the
art controls and instrumentation system will be supplied from BHEL's electronics
division, Bangalore.
North Chennai Power Company, a special
purpose vehicle floated by Aban Group, Chennai and Zelan Group, Malaysia is
setting up a 1,200 MW (2x600 MW) coal based power unit at Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
