BSNL intends to spin
off its telecom infrastructure operations into a separate company, for which
Boston Consulting Group is appointed as consultant. The company is pitching
for wireline and wireless service licences on offer in countries with low tele-density
and is also mulling an overseas acquisition.
BSNL's initial
investment plan for 2009-10 was fixed at Rs.18,000 crore, is likely to be
scaled down to Rs.14,000 crore since planned investments is likely to be
staggered. The investment plan included acquiring equipment and infrastructure
for adding 93 million cellular phones.
