Larsen & Toubro (L&T)
in collaboration with Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL) will develop a competitive
cost model for the Advanced CANDU Reactor ACR 1000. In this regard, L&T and AECL
have signed an MoU on 21 January 2009. The agreement is yet get the final nod
from the governments of India and Canada.
The two firms will
cooperate with each other for developing the ACR 1000. Upon the completion of
the model, L&T and AECL will begin discussions to develop nuclear power plants
in India on EPC basis and utilise the collective expertise in exploiting the
global markets.
The ACR 1000 is AECL's
third generation reactor design that utilises the proven concepts of the
pressurised heavy water reactor.
