Siemens has bagged a
turnkey order worth Rs.211.60 crore from Steel Authority of India (SAIL) to
provide extra high voltage power distribution package at Rourkela steel plant,
Orissa for augmentation of their existing main step down substations and
installation of new MSDs.
The scope of work for
this order includes design & engineering, supply, civil work, erection, testing
and commissioning of 220 kV Gas Insulated Switch gear (GIS), 132 kV GIS & AIS
Switchyards, 33 kV GIS,11 KM 132 kV transmission line and substation automation
system for individual substations.
This power
augmentation program will enable Rourkela steel plant to enhance its production
capacity from 1.9 million tonne to 4.5 million tonne. The power distribution
package provided by Siemens will convert the power received from the grid at 220
kV level and feed it into the Rolling Mills and Oxygen Plant.
Further, this project
also encompasses the setting up of 132 kV Transmission Lines, interconnecting
new /existing substations and strengthening 132 kV ring networks in order to
have a better power flexibility. The Rourkela steel plant is scheduled to be
commissioned by the end of 2010.
