Telecom player Aircel intends to invest Rs.1,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh by
December 2009, as part of its $5 billion (approx Rs.25,500 crore) pan-India
expansion plan spread over the next three to five years.
The company is likely to build base stations, install switches and
intelligent network, create a data centre and set up offices, besides enhancing
retail presence during the year 2009. While the company has already invested Rs.
500 crore as a part of the Phase I expansion in Andhra Pradesh, the rest will be
invested by end-2009. With completion of Phase I scheduled for May 2009, Aircel
will be able to set up 450 stations for Hyderabad and Secunderabad. This will be
scaled up to 1,000 base stations, covering all major cities like Vijayawada,
Visakhapatnam, Warangal and Cuddappah, in the following 60 days, and touch 2,000
stations by end-2009.
