J Kumar Infraprojects, a Mumbai-based contractor, is unlikely to complete
three of its flyover projects in Mumbai in stipulated time owing to land
acquisition issues. J Kumar, in an equal partnership deal with Hyderabad-based
Nagarjuna Construction Company is building three flyovers between Sion and
Bharat Mata at a cost of Rs 130 crore.
The flyover project at Sion-Bharatmata is likely to be delayed by nearly
four-six months while the completion of two more flyovers at Andheri and Juhu is
entirely depended on how soon Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)
acquires the requisite land for these projects. Only 5-10 per cent work on the
Rs 50 crore flyover at Andheri (west) has been completed as there are 34 shops
that are to be demolished to make way for the flyover. Similarly, 150 shops are
to be removed for Rs 50-crore flyover over Milan subway at Santacruz. Currently,
MMRDA is negotiating with the shop owners.
