The proposed Vijayawada Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) in Andhra Pradesh
has hit a road block due to delay in finalisation of the design of buses and
unable to take off by end-2009.
The State Government had given its approval for the SPV to implement the Rs
153 crore project in January 2009.
However, a final decision on the design of buses that will ply on the
dedicated corridors is still awaited from the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC).
The authorities were yet to call for tenders from the bus building units, which
would happen only after the VMC finalises the design.
Apart from these, civil works like foot bridges and specific lanes pertaining
to the corridors are yet to be completed.
