The Maharashtra Government is planning to develop tourist places of
Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani through MMRDA in order to attract more tourists at
these famous tourist hotspots.
CIDCO will be the development authority for Mahabaleshwar and Panchagani. The
development plan is expected to be drafted soon and will be sent to MoEF for
approval. The ministry announced Mahabaleshwar-Panchagani zone as eco-sensitive
in 2001 and was directed to draft a plan for its development.
There will be restrictions on the usage of ground water, plastic and
constructions on hills in the zone which will include entire Mahabaleshwar
tehsil and five villages - Bondarwadi, Dhangarwadi, Bhuteghar, Taloshi and
Umbari - from neighbouring Jawali tehsil.
