Tata Steel is likely to complete the land acquisition for its greenfield
integrated steel plant in Chhattisgarh by June 2010.
So far, the company has acquired 70 per cent of the total land required for
the propose project. The company is likely to source iron ore for the
Chhattisgarh plant from Bailadila mines. The proposed plant is expected to focus
on long products.
The company is planning capacity expansion from 6.8 to 16 million tpa by 2014
with an estimated investment of Rs 40,000 crore. The capacity of its Jamshedpur
plant will be raised from 6.8 to 10 million tpa by March 2011. Another three
million tpa is expected to be added to the company's cumulative capacity from
the greenfield project at Kalinga Nagar in Orissa, and three million tpa more in
Phase I at Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh. The Kalinga Nagar plant is slated to come
up on 4,800 acre and is likely to produce flat products.
