ArcelorMittal is expected to relocate its Rs 50,000-crore steel project to
Bokaro district from the earlier proposed Khunti-Gumla district in Jharkhand, as
it faced inordinate delays in land acquisition.
In 2005, the company had inked an MoU with the Jharkhand Government for
setting up a 12 million tpa steel plant.
According to sources, the company is now in need of 2,000 acre at Petarwar (Bokaro)
for the Phase I of the project. It has also requested the state government for
about 50 million cubic mtrs of water from the Tenughat dam to cater to the
requirements of the proposed plant.
