The MoEF is likely to reject environment clearance to Chhattisgarh Mineral
Development Corporation's (CMDC) six million tpa Tara open-cast (OC) project, as
it does not want to allow any OC coal mining activity in the forest-rich Hasedo
Arand coalfields areas of Chhattisgarh.
According to the Expert Appraisal Committee, the proposed project will have
severe impact on the forestland and the ecology of the region, as, out of the
total project area of 2,778.19 ha, 2,301.26 ha is forestland.
