KIOCL is planning to set up a 50:50 JV with Rashtriya Ispat Nigam (RINL) to
set up a ductile iron spun pipe (DISP) plant in Mangalore, Karnataka, with a
capacity of 1,00,000 tpa. The boards of both companies are likely to meet
shortly and approve the JV formally.
Earlier, the company was planning to form the proposed JV with a private
firm. The company has called off the plan owing to higher cost.
KIOCL plans to build the Rs 330-crore DISP plant adjacent to its existing pig
iron plant in Mangalore on the west coast. The proposed plant is likely to
utilise the superior pig iron with low phosphorus and low sulphur, already
produced by the company.
The company may form a separate company to take up the project with RINL. The
JV company will sell the ductile iron spun pipes in the domestic market and also
export to European countries.
