The Karnataka Government has sanctioned Rs 300 crore for upgrading the right
and left bank Malaprabha irrigation project and its canals at Nargund in Gadag
district under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme.
The Malaprabha right bank canal had been commissioned on an experimental
basis and steps are likely to be taken after assessing the condition of the
canal and having discussion with the concerned officials.
Meanwhile, work on the left bank canal of the Singatalur lift irrigation
project, which was delayed because of technical reasons, had been initiated now.
The Hammigi lift irrigation project which was part of the Singatalur project is
likely to be completed by December 2010.
