The Tamil Nadu Government has sanctioned Rs 1,000 crore for laying roads of
international standard across eleven cities in the state.
Around 750 km of roads are to be built in Madurai.
The roads are to have good lighting facility, footpaths and sign boards.
Laying of water pipes and underground cables will be taken up in advance to
ensure that there was no digging of the roads for at least five years after the
completion of the project.
The construction of the roads is likely to begin in a year and will be
maintained by the private agencies for five years.
