The MMRDA has reportedly set 21 May 2010 as a deadline for the potential
bidders to submit their RFPs for the state-of-the-art Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT)
project. The project is estimated to cost Rs 350 crore.
The ISBT is to come up on a 4.5 ha plot situated next to the Wadala truck
terminus. It is likely to have world-class passenger platforms, food courts,
cinema halls, departmental stores, budget hotel, convenience rooms, rest rooms,
recreation centres and baggage rooms. It is expected to provide integrated
facilities for BEST/Auto/Taxi and cars/two wheelers parking. A monorail station
is under implementation to provide direct connectivity to ISBT.
The entire project will be undertaken, completed and operated on PPP basis
wherein the terminal is expected to be leased out to the developer for a lease
period of 25 years. The private developer will design, built, finance and
operate the terminal and commercial activities at the premises.
The developer will have to construct mechanical workshops, vehicle washing
facilities and rest rooms for the transport operators apart from providing
systematic bus parking facility. The proposed ISBT is expected to be operational
by December 2013.
