The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has achieved a key milestone with the successful launch of its 10th steel bridge in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Spanning 60 mtrs., the bridge was installed over a Western Railway facility, marking the first steel bridge launch in Ahmedabad district for the project. The transverse launching was executed in just seven hours, with the bridge assembled at a height of 16.5 mtrs. on temporary trestles and then side-slewed into position using semi-automatic jacks with 200-tonne capacity. Weighing 485 tonne and measuring 12 mtrs. in height and 11.4 mtrs. in width, it was fabricated in Wardha, Maharashtra, and transported to Ahmedabad using specialised trailers.
The structure incorporates over 20,360 high-strength bolts, elastomeric bearings, and protective C5 coating for durability and vibration control. Across the corridor, 28 steel bridges are planned—17 in Gujarat and 11 in Maharashtra, supporting viaducts, river crossings, and flyovers, significantly enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
