The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide funds for the development works in Kolkata and its suburbs.
The development works are estimated to cost Rs 1,800 crore. Of which ADB will give Rs 1, 250 crore and the remaining Rs 550 crore will be borne jointly by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the state government. The funds will be utilised for the Phase I development work which includes the pending sewerage and drainage work at Behala and in areas from boroughs one to six. Apart from beautification and installation of LED lights across the city, the scheme also includes the augmentation of water supply in Palta and Garden Reach.
