The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) for North Eastern Railway (NER) has approved the newly constructed third rail line between Gorakhpur Junction and Gorakhpur Cantt stations in Uttar Pradesh. This development follows a comprehensive inspection of infrastructure, systems, and safety protocols at both stations. The 3.5-km-long, 25,000-volt AC electrified third line is designed to improve passenger amenities and operational efficiency in the region.
The CRS inspection, led by Pranjeev Saxena, was conducted in the presence of senior railway officials. At Gorakhpur Junction, the CRS evaluated the AI-enabled electronic interlocking panel, the Station Superintendent’s office, safety documentation, yard layout, station management protocols, integrated power supply, and battery backup systems.
Further, the team used a motor trolley to conduct a detailed safety review of railway infrastructure, including points, crossings, curves, and bridges along the Gorakhpur Junction-Gorakhpur Cantt route. This on-ground verification ensured structural and operational readiness for full-scale implementation.
At Gorakhpur Cantt station, the inspection included an evaluation of signalling infrastructure, ballast conditions, platform clearance, battery installations, the relay room, and staff safety preparedness. The CRS also assessed the railway personnel’s knowledge and readiness regarding operational safety measures, which are vital for smooth and secure train movement.
