ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) will commission two production lines at its flagship facility in Hazira, Gujarat, by 2025.
These lines - a continuous galvanizing line (CGL) and a continuous galvanizing and annealing line (CGAL), will produce high-quality automotive steel, reducing India's reliance on imports and supporting the government's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) initiative. The production units will integrate advanced technical expertise from ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, ensuring global-quality standards. The expansion is part of the cold rolling mill 2 (CRM2) complex and is strategically designed to cater to the growing demand for automotive flat steel in India, projected to grow by six to seven percent annually.
Currently, the demand stands at 7.8 MTPA. These facilities will expand the company’s portfolio by manufacturing globally recognised products domestically for the first time. This initiative positions AM/NS India as a preferred supplier for automotive manufacturers and strengthens the country’s steel industry.
This development represents a significant step in AM/NS India’s strategy to meet the evolving needs of the automotive sector while bolstering the nation’s steel ecosystem.
