The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) is poised to becomes a pivotal centre for medical technology innovation, particularly after playing a crucial role in supplying essential medical equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to its Managing Director and Founder CEO, Jitendar Sharma, AMTZ has become a key player in a global ecosystem for medical technology. "Many ‘Made in India’ hospitals would be set up across the country and the medical equipment required for these hospitals would be produced here (AMTZ)," he said.
Founded in 2018 on a 270-acre site, AMTZ was built in a record 342 days and boasts advanced manufacturing and scientific facilities. The zone currently houses 152 companies, producing a wide array of medical devices. Several new units are expected to join in 2025.
During the height of the pandemic, AMTZ rose to the occasion, producing critical medical supplies such as 250 ventilators, 500 oxygen concentrators, and 10 lakh RT PCR kits daily. AMTZ has also established several groundbreaking facilities in Andhra Pradesh, including the state’s first World Trade Centre, Prime Minister Science and Technology Cluster, and electronic waste processing facility.
Additionally, it hosts India's first silicon medical detector and superconducting magnet facilities, a heart valve production unit, and the world’s first WHO Centre for Health Innovations. These developments highlight AMTZ’s role in advancing medical technology and positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leader in this sector.
