Adani Green Energy (AGEL) is set to add three GW or 3,000 MW of solar power by the end of this year with an investment of USD 1.5-2 billion, aiming to increase its total capacity to seven GW at Khavda, Gujarat. The company has recently operationalised 693 MW of renewable energy projects, boosting its total capacity at Khavda to 3.7 GW.
With this addition, AGEL’s overall renewable energy capacity has now reached 15 GW. AGEL’s Khavda plant, spanning 538 sq. km (nearly the size of Mumbai), is part of a broader plan to generate 26 GW of solar and four GW of wind energy by 2029, with an investment of Rs 1.5 lakh crore. The plant is expected to generate 81 billion units of electricity annually, enough to power 16.1 million homes and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 58 million tonne each year.
Additionally, as part of backward integration, the Adani Group has established a solar cell and module manufacturing capacity of four GW at Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone near Mundra port. Work is already underway to expand this capacity to 10 GW to meet rising demand.
