Adani Power has received a letter of intent (LoI) from the Bihar State Power Generation Company (BSPGCL) to set up and operate a 2,400 MW greenfield coal-based thermal power plant in Bhagalpur district at an estimated investment of Rs 25,000 crore (USD three billion).
The company emerged as the lowest bidder in a competitive tender with a final power supply price of Rs 6.075 per kWh. The project, based on the design, build, finance, own, and operate (DBFOO) model, will be executed through a 3x800 MW ultra-supercritical power plant. The first unit is expected to be commissioned within 48 months from the appointed date, and the entire project is targeted for completion within 60 months.
Power will be supplied to North and South Bihar Power Distribution Companies (NBPDCL and SBPDCL). Fuel for the plant will be secured through a coal linkage under the Government of India’s SHAKTI policy. The project is expected to create 10,000–12,000 employment during construction and around 3,000 work opportunities during operations. Adani Power currently operates 18,110 MW of thermal power capacity, making it India’s largest private thermal power producer.
